These are the papers that I submitted to the AP Capstone Seminar and AP Capstone Research examinations, both of which I scored the highest score of 5 on.
This is the promotional video I made for my Chinese class. I was the co-vice president of our school’s chapter of the National Chinese Honor Society, and I mainly focused on marketing, communications, and event organization.
I made this promotional video to encourage rising freshmen to enroll in Chinese Class.
This is a 3-minute “elevator pitch” video I submitted to the iLeadinSTEM contest for innovative ideas about girls in STEM. It won 1st place.
I joined the fall program hosted by the DFW Alliance of Technology and Women, and over the period of 4 weeks learned different skillsets from established women in STEM, leadership, and how to present ideas concisely and convincingly.
The making of this video later inspired me to start my own school club revolving around the idea of encouraging more young girls to participate and excel in STEM, called the Dragons’ Alliance of Technology and Women.
This is a sports poster I made in my free time as a friend’s birthday present (she liked the Phoenix Suns at the time!). I wanted to experiment with Adobe Photoshop and learned how to make and stylize the graffiti/paint splatter aesthetic.
This is the short film that I created and submitted to the Short Film category for the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) competition that takes place every year.
Elpis is the name of the protagonist, who wakes up without memories in a world void of human life. Throughout the film, they explore their surroundings, following a voice that guides them to regain their memory and discover what happened to their environment.
When initially making this film, I was inspired by multimedia creations and I wanted to incorporate both live video and animated sequences into this short film. This connected back to the underlying theme of the short film, which is the destructive effects of climate change and greed. By showing Elpis exploring their surroundings using live video, I animated the sequences of their memories returning to them – gradually unveiling the truth behind the fall of a futuristic city.
ELPIS was nominated for the Nobelity Social Impact Award, which “celebrates student films that inform their audiences about issues that affect their communities, and inspire social change.”
This is my video submission to the annual Chinese Speech and Talent Contest. The contest is comprised of a talent portion and a Chinese speech portion. Contesters would be judged based on their Chinese speaking ability and the authenticity and entertainment factor of their talent.
I started learning to play the violin in 2020 when we were under quarantine. While I have not been playing the violin for very long, I wanted to showcase my creativity and video editing talent to the judges. Thus, I recorded myself several different times playing the traditional Chinese song called “新春乐” (“A New Spring”), and compiled them to create 5 different “personalities” of myself. During the contest, I played the piece live in-synch to the video.
I won 2nd place overall and the Best Performance award.
This is a project I submitted for my US History class creativity assignment. I was tasked with integrating a piece of class material – which could range from literature we read to historical events and people – with my own creative work.
I was inspired by the fast-paced action and jarring plot twist in the short story “An Occurrence at Owl creek Bridge” by Ambrose Bierce, and created a Minecraft movie retelling it.
Fun fact: I had my two (unwilling) friends and younger brother act as the characters!
